I am planning to start a window cleaning business in my town, where lots of new houses are being built. What marketing ideas should I use?
First of all consider making an offer along the lines of one free window cleaning in return for a one-year contract. Then develop a promotional leaflet highlighting this offer. This leaflet could then be delivered on a door-to-door basis around new housing estates, and advertised in local shops. There are a number of ways of delivering the leaflet as well walking the streets yourself, talk to the local news paper shop about delivering with papers. Depending on your budget the leaflet could be used as and advertisement in the local paper.
If you have a van have it professionally sign written with contact details. Consider having a board made up for displaying while cleaning windows at houses. Decide if you are going to have a distinctive T-shirt to wear while working.
Build a list of customers and consider giving all customers a calendar at Christmas. Ask customers; “do you know anyone else?” offer a reward for customers they recommend to you.
Talk to the builders about welcome to your new home packs that your leaflet could be included in.
See if there are any other businesses you could link with. For example you could deliver leaflets for a gardener in return for him delivering leaflets for your business.
Over time see if there are any other services you could offer to existing customers for example cleaning of guttering and facia boards, cleaning inside windows etc.
